The geology collection, founded in 1968, contains three sections: mineralogy, petrology and paleontology. The oldest sample of the collection, a lune spar from the Cortelu Hill zone (Somova, Tulcea County) dates from 1968. Presently, the geology collection contains 1125 samples coming from both the Romanian territory (Dobrudja, Transylvania Basin, Sub-Carpathians, Gaetic Depression, Apuseni Mountains, Rodnei Mountains) and other countries (China, Island, Czechoslovakia, Italy). A special place is detained by the mine crystals, the so-called mine “flowers”, acquired from private collectors or drawn from the Maramures mines.
